2010-2011:

Our 22nd Season will feature more of the repertoire that you love from ABS. We’ll return to Grace Cathedral for our famous performances of Handel’s Messiah. Then the regular subscription season will open with a program of music composed by Handel and Purcell for their beloved female royal patrons. Two splendid Birthday Odes for Purcell’s Queen Mary - Come ye Sons of Art and Now does the Glorious Day Appear - will be paired with Handel’s rapturous Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne (“Eternal Source of Light Divine”) and the Te Deum for Queen Caroline, his friend, student, and confidant.

A program called “April Follies” will feature secular compositions by Bach and Telemann, including a Wedding Cantata, the percolating Coffee Cantata, Telemann’s delightfully humorous Ode on the Death of a Pet Canary, and the always thrilling Fourth Brandenburg Concerto. The season will end with a performance of the all-time favorite, Bach’s Magnificat, along with the West Coast Premiere of the Mass for Three Choirs by Antonio Lotti!

Among our guest vocal soloists for the 2010-2011 season are sopranos Yulia Van Doren, Elizabeth Weigle, and Arianna Zukerman; alto Jennifer Lane; countertenors Ian Howell and Clifton Massey; tenors Wesley Rogers and Aaron Sheehan; and baritones Jesse Blumberg, Joshua Copeland, and James Maddalena. A fantastic lineup!

Now enjoy our site, enjoy the music, and enjoy the performances!
